Olympic Basketball: Overkill or Masterpiece?

Share

In Larry Stewart’s column of July 3 about the U.S. Olympic basketball team, he states: “But the novelty is bound to wear off, and the lack of competitive games may hurt the Olympics.”

I disagree. I predict that the USA basketball games at the Olympics will have even higher ratings than the games at the Tournament of the Americas.

I don’t think that competitiveness is even an issue, nor are the games a novelty in which interest might wane. No one goes to a bullfight expecting it to be competitive, nor has interest in bullfighting waned. A matador is judged on his grace and skill--so is the Dream Team.
