Walnut : Student Parking Limit

Share

A residential street next to Walnut High School will be effectively closed to student parking under an ordinance tentatively approved by the City Council on Wednesday.

The council voted 4 to 0 to set a one-hour parking limit along a 675-foot stretch of Abogado Avenue south of Vejar Road. The restriction would be effective from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on school days only.

Residents of Abogado Avenue complained to the council that many students who parked along the street disturbed the tranquillity of the neighborhood with rowdy behavior. They submitted a petition signed by 19 of 20 property owners who live along the affected section of Abogado Avenue.

Two Walnut High School students countered that they are forced to park their cars along residential streets because of insufficient on-campus parking.

The council is scheduled to take a final vote July 22.
