BUENA PARK : City Manager’s Contract Extended

Share

The City Council agreed to extend City Manager Kevin O’Rourke’s contract for one year but included no wage or benefit increases because of a tight budget.

Other city employees will also receive no raises this year, while the city faces further budget cuts.

O’Rourke, who receives a salary of $93,791 a year, was hired Nov. 1, 1985.

He also has the use of a city car for personal and business use and city credit cards for city business.

In addition, he has life insurance and retirement benefits comparable to other city employees.

In a brief report, the council acknowledged that if the economy was better, O’Rourke’s contract agreement would have included a “commensurate compensation package.”

The lack of salary or benefit increases for O’Rourke and other city employees was blamed on the economy.

The city has cut $2 million this year to balance a $38-million budget for the 1992 fiscal year.

It has also cut 53 positions in the past two years and expects to have to find more places to pare when the state budget is passed.
