FOUNTAIN VALLEY : Council Approves $50,000 in Grants
The City Council has approved $50,000 in Community Development Block grants to a number of social service agencies.
The annual awards account for 15% of the total block grant money the city received from the federal Housing and Urban Development this year.
The council approved $5,000 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley; $4,200 to Community Service Programs Inc. for youth diversion and restitution programs; $2,500 to California Elwyn Inc. for job development; $2,000 to the Exchange Club Child Abuse Prevention Center; $2,600 for the Feedback Foundation senior meals program and $6,000 to the Fountain Valley School District for child care subsidies.
The council also approved $6,500 to the Huntington Beach Community Clinic; $2,500 for the Orange County Youth and Family Services Amparo Youth Shelter; $2,300 for the Shelter for the Homeless; $7,000 for the South Coast Institute for Applied Gerontology; $4,500 for the South Orange County YWCA and $5,000 for the Women’s Transitional Living Center, a North County shelter for battered women.
The city received $334,000 this year in block grant money, which is used for low-interest loans for rehabilitating old housing and making other improvements throughout the city.
