AT&T;, Unions Reach Accord: American Telephone & Telegraph Co. and its unions reached tentative agreement on a new contract after marathon weekend talks, the unions announced. Negotiators for the unions--the Communications Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers--and the telephone company completed work on the proposed contract late Sunday. The unions said the tentative agreement contains improvements in job transfers, provides access to a larger pool of jobs and includes provisions for temporary jobs for laid-off workers and improved chances for rehiring into new jobs. The unions now will submit the agreement to their membership for ratification.
