A man who rode a coal train from Denver was killed when the train dumped its load at a power plant, burying him under three 100-ton carloads of coal, authorities said Monday.

The unidentified man and a companion were asleep in a coal car when the train arrived Sunday at the Sunflower Electric Plant, officials said. The survivor said he grabbed the side of the car in time to escape being thrown into a 25-foot-deep coal pit and buried. He was cut and bruised.
