WHO CARES? Does preserving the gnatcatcher really matter to people in Orange County? At first glance, a poll for the development-oriented Corridor Business Coalition seems to say fewer than 1% do. . . . But wildlife advocates say the poll is misleading. Pollsters gave people a list of 10 environmental issues and asked them to choose the most important one. The gnatcatcher came in last behind air quality, the ozone layer, ocean pollution, even “no opinion.” . . . “Hardly a fair question,” says one activist.
