IN BRIEF : Asian-Pacific Group Plans Award Dinner

The annual Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics (LEAP) Leadership Awards dinner will be held Thursday at the Hyatt Regency Los Angeles at the Broadway Plaza, 711 S. Hope St.

Betty Tom Chu, the first Chinese-American woman admitted to the California State Bar, and Visual Communications, the first Asian Pacific American media center, will be among the honorees.

The dinner will raise funds to support LEAP programs, including its Leadership Management Institute workshops and its national Asian Pacific American Public Policy Institute, and help create the LEAP Relief Fund. The fund will aid individuals and organizations damaged by the recent Los Angeles civil disturbances. Asian Pacific Americans were hard hit and many of the businesses had no insurance.
