Gifford Myers, an assistant professor of studio art at UC Irvine, is one of five recipients of the Young Talent Award sponsored by the Contemporary Art Council of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Exhibits by each of the artists are on view at the museum through Aug. 23. Myers, 43, of Altadena, has taught ceramic sculpture at UCI since 1974. He also won the Young Talent Award in 1984. Since then, however, he has shifted from satirical miniatures of upscale Southern California residences and landscapes to making tile-and-concrete ball-baubles as large as eight feet in diameter. He studied architecture at UC Berkeley and earned his master of fine arts degree at UCI.
