The Moorpark City Council has approved final plans for grading and other improvements at the site of Arroyo Vista Community Park, which officials hope to open as part of the city’s 10th anniversary celebration next year.

The council agreed this week to spend $732,000 for grading, making storm drain improvements and other preliminary work to prepare the western half of the 70-acre site for development.

After the improvements are completed, the city plans to hire contractors to build a recreation center, two play lots and two softball fields in the park.

The 15,000-square-foot recreation center will include meeting and activity rooms and a gymnasium.

Officials hope the construction work will be finished in time to dedicate the park on July 1, 1993, when Moorpark will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its incorporation.

The park, located just east of Tierra Rejada Road and south of the Arroyo Simi flood channel, will be the city’s largest recreation area.

Santa Monica-based developer Urban West Communities donated $1 million to the city last year for the construction of the park’s recreation center. The city also will spend between $2 million and $3 million over the next year and a half on the park’s development, Public Works Director Ken Gilbert said.
