Trashing the Troops: Fox programming chief Peter Chernin admitted Sunday that one of the network’s recent sitcoms was no laughing matter. “Vinnie and Bobby,” about two blue-collar guys, “was an embarrassment,” Chernin said in explaining to a gathering of television critics why Fox did not send out advance copies of the show. “We saw no reason to trumpet it,” he said. “Frankly, we did not want it reviewed.” . . . Meanwhile, Fox said that it will counterprogram the opening of the Republican National Convention on Aug. 17 with a new TV movie, “Bonnie and Clyde: The True Story.”
