Danced Out the Door

Share

I represent a number of square-dance clubs in the San Fernando Valley-Santa Clarita-Antelope Valley area. A number of clubs have been displaced by the Los Angeles Unified School District because of budget cuts. These are hard-working folk enjoying a wonderful activity that does not cost too much to participate.

This whole budget scenario in Sacramento and all of government has got to make the average citizen sick to his stomach. While basic taxpayer-paid facilities will be left vacant and possibly subject to vandalism and other calamities, I see government jobs advertised in the paper and am appalled at some of the salaries offered. You’re going to tell me private industry pays that much? What about all the days off, unlimited sick leave and well-paid pensions for even the most minimal of time on the job?

It is better for taxpayer-paid facilities to be used, receiving enough rent, if necessary, to cover basic costs.

Square-dancers are wonderful people and good citizens. They deserve a place to dance. Let’s get our priorities straight, folks.
