North Korean Crosses Border for Study of South Korean Industry
Communist North Korea’s highest-ranking economic official crossed the border Sunday for a weeklong study of South Korean industry.
The trip is widely viewed as an effort to revive the stalled dialogue between the two countries.
Kim Dal Hyon, a North Korean vice premier in charge of economic affairs, told a news conference at the border village of Panmunjom that he hopes his visit will speed up economic cooperation between the Koreas.
South Korea has curbed economic exchanges with the rival north because the Communist state has balked at allowing its nuclear facilities to be inspected, as required under a February nuclear arms ban treaty.
