Hospital to Hold Celebrity Golf Benefit

Valley Presbyterian Hospital’s “Score Against Cancer” celebrity golf tournament is scheduled for Sunday at El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana.

The event includes a celebrity dinner show featuring Norm Crosby, Tom Dreesen, Steve Garvey, Happy Hairston, Dennis James, Arte Johnson, Johnny Mann, Peter Marshall, Tom Poston and David Wolper. Proceeds will benefit the hospital’s Center for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancer.

Jorge Melendez Jr., a seventh-grader at Chandler Elementary School in Van Nuys, has been selected to play soccer for Superteams International, a 13-and-under boys’ team.

Melendez, 12, will participate in three elite international tournaments in July and August: The London Cup, The Wedgewood Keele Classic in England and The Harlem Cup in the Netherlands.
