Three employees of the city’s juvenile hall were fired after a 17-year-old boy who attempted to escape from the center was beaten with an aluminum baseball bat.

The director of the center, Mario Hernandez Venegas, said Wednesday that the three workers, identified as Agapito Moreno Ortega, Javier Parra Madrid and Cuauhtemoc Lozano Veronica, were fired because the beating was unjustified.

The youth was not identified because of his age. Hernandez said the boy suffered a head wound, a concussion and a swollen left arm in the beating, but his injuries were not serious enough to require hospitalization. He said the boy was turned over to a brother, who planned to return the boy to the family’s home in the Mexican state of Nayarit.
