Tokos Medical Corp.: The nation’s leading provider of medical devices for women suffering from troubled pregnancies, said Monday that it had a record 49% increase in earnings for the first six months of 1992.

The Santa Ana-based company, which manufactures its own in-home uterine monitoring device, earned $8.2 million, or 50 cents a share, for the six-month period that ended June 30. That compared with a profit of $5.5 million, or 34 cents a share, for the same period last year.

Revenue was also strong for the first half of 1992: $73.5 million, up 41% from $52 million a year earlier.

For the second quarter, earnings came to $4.2 million, or 26 cents a share, compared to $3.4 million, or 21 cents a share, a year earlier. Revenue was $38.6 million, up a hefty 37% from $28 million for the same period a year earlier.

Chief Executive Robert F. Byrnes attributed the company’s financial gains to “marketing efforts to further penetrate the high-risk pregnancy market as well as increasing our service offerings to the Ob/Gyn marketplace.”

The acquisition of competitor CareLink Corp. in Irvine, to be completed Friday, will be reflected in the next quarterly financial statements.

Tokos Medical’s stock, traded on the NASDAQ market, fell $1.12 Monday to close at $29.88 a share.
