Iraq’s Oil-Refining Capacity Said to Be at 75%: Iraq has restored about three-quarters of its pre-Gulf War capability to produce oil, according to the Petroleum Intelligence Weekly. The newsletter said seven Iraqi plants are producing about half a million barrels per day, compared to the 690,000 barrels per day Iraq produced in 1991 before the massive bombardment by the U.S.-led coalition that forced it to pull its troops from Kuwait. In the article in its July 20 edition, Petroleum International Weekly indicated that Iraq was using parts salvaged from bombed-out refineries and had nearly exhausted its spare parts stores.
