White Supremacist Seeks 2nd Simi Valley Parade Permit
A white supremacist whose June 6 parade in Simi Valley was halted because of a violent counterdemonstration informed city officials Tuesday that he plans to stage another rally in the Ventura County community Sept. 12.
In a letter to the city’s legal staff, Richard Barrett, a Mississippi attorney who heads the Nationalist Movement, applied for a permit to hold another “No King Over Us--Law & Order Parade and Rally.”
His letter asked the city to request National Guard troops to protect the parade. The second rally also is aimed at showing support for the four Los Angeles police officers in the Rodney G. King beating trial, held in Simi Valley. Three officers were acquitted outright. The jury could not reach a verdict on one charge against one officer.
Assistant City Manager Mike Sedell said the city will send Barrett a new parade permit application that was revised because of a federal court ruling on public gatherings. When the application is returned, Sedell said, “We will consider it.”
