Choreographer Donald McKayle, who teaches dance at UC Irvine, will create a work for the San Jose Cleveland Ballet to premiere in Cleveland Sept. 30 and in San Jose Oct 16. The ballet, as yet untitled, will be set to Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1. A five-time Tony nominee, McKayle received the $25,000 Samuel H. Scripps American Dance Festival Award for lifetime achievement in modern dance June 28 at Duke University in North Carolina.
