John and Betty Black and Marion and...

John and Betty Black and Marion and Fred Luenberger, all of Glendale, were honored with 70 other longtime members of the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles. Both couples have been members of the mid-Wilshire church for more than 50 years. Marion Luenberger, 77, joined the church in 1931, and Fred Luenberger, 79, joined in 1935. John and Betty Black, 81 and 77, became members in 1940.

Etan Anthony of Silver Lake recently earned a place on the United States Junior Development Luge Team, a special training program for the Winter Olympics sport in which athletes sled down an iced track on their backs. The 15-year-old Marshall High School junior was selected after training last winter in Calgary, Canada, and in Lake Placid, N.Y. He will continue training with the team in November and December and compete next February in Lake Placid. Anthony hopes to compete in the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillihammer, Norway.

Tina Marie Ito of La Canada Flintridge was installed as president of the Women’s Council of Verdugo Hills Hospital and Foundation. Ito, who has been a volunteer at the hospital for six years, also serves on several hospital committees, including the Foundation’s Substance Abuse Task Force.

The Glendale College Alumni Assn. recently announced its new board of directors and committee chairmen. Members are Karla Bates, president; Jim Bates, vice president; Darlene Finocchiaro, secretary; Lee Fazio, treasurer; Nikki Killen, activities; Mike Finocchiaro, membership; Bob Torres, newsletter, and Ralph Walroth, publicity/historian.
