World IN BRIEF : MADAGASCAR : Opposition’s Coup Attempt Collapses

An opposition group seized Madagascar’s state-run radio and declared the overthrow of the government, but it soon gave up and four participants were captured, officials said. During its three-hour radio takeover, the group broadcast a taped message criticizing the government of President Didier Ratsiraka. Protests have shaken the island nation off Africa’s east coast for more than a year.
