Chevron Plans Refinery Renovation: The oil company plans a $750-million renovation at its refinery in Richmond, Calif., so the facility can make cleaner-burning fuels for cars and trucks. The project, which will create 1,000 construction jobs at its peak, will occur in stages over four years. The majority of the funds--about $400 million--will go toward ensuring that the refinery can meet tougher 1995 federal standards and 1996 state standards for cleaner-burning gasoline. The remaining $350 million will go for processing units to improve yields on higher-value products such as gasoline, Chevron said.
