I read with growing disinterest Rosenberg’s hatchet job on Moyer’s first broadcast for KNBC since signing his multimillion-dollar contract. The piece was a one-gimmick deal, the gimmick consisting of Rosenberg quoting Moyer--generally social or small talk with his fellow broadcasters--and then figuring out how much Moyer was getting per word. To give it color, Rosenberg spelled the word you as if it were pronounced ya .

What Rosenberg doesn’t understand or can’t seem to accept is that the reason Moyer gets all that money is that people like to watch him. He comes across as a nice guy, one you feel comfortable with, not too handsome, doesn’t take himself too seriously, quite a sense of humor, pleasing personality.

Speaking of pay-per-word, is it right for Rosenberg to get paid by The Times just for quoting what other people say? Shouldn’t he think up his own words?
