Proving once again that old habits die hard, visiting Imelda Marcos splurged Friday on six pairs of crocodile shoes that cost $5,806, according to news reports. The widow of the Philippine dictator once had a collection of 1,200 pairs of shoes.

The five-day trip is her first outside the Philippines since she returned to Manila in November, 1991, after being driven into exile in Hawaii by a popular revolt in 1986. Her husband, Ferdinand E. Marcos, died there in 1989.

She was scheduled to return today to Manila.
