Ed Schuyler, a New York-based sportswriter with the Associated Press, is known as the “Iron Horse” of Olympic Games boxing reporters.

When the last gold-medal fight is held on Aug. 9 in the 327-bout tournament, Schuyler will have seen 1,615 consecutive Olympic bouts.

He has seen every boxing match at the Games of Montreal, Moscow, Los Angeles, Seoul and, barring absenteeism through Aug. 9, Barcelona.

At Sunday’s session, he will pass the 1,500-bout mark.

What does it all mean?

“It means I’ve seen a lot of bad boxing,” Schuyler said.

This a daily roundup of Olympic-related items from reporters in Barcelona from the Los Angeles Times, Newsday, Baltimore Sun and Hartford Courant, all Times-Mirror newspapers.
