The County Board of Supervisors has awarded $4,500 to the South Coast Repertory Theatre and the Orange County Marine Institute in Dana Point.

Supervisor Thomas F. Riley recommended the distribution of the Community Social Program grants, earmarked in the 1991-92 fiscal budget for nonprofit organizations in the county.

South Coast Repertory Theatre in Costa Mesa received $3,000, which will be used for its youth education and outreach programs, including scholarships for youth drama classes.

The Orange County Marine Institute received $1,500 to be used as a student-aid endowment for children whose parents can not afford program fees.

“All programs are self-sufficient, so when a teacher signs up her class for a program, a letter is sent home explaining the cost,” said Susan Hoover, an institute spokeswoman. “Every once in a while, there is a parent who is unable to pay for a class, and so we created this endowment to ensure no student is left behind.”
