Chrysler Boosts Five-Year Spending Plan: The No. 3 auto maker increased its rolling five-year product spending budget to $17.3 billion from $16.4 billion, a company spokesman confirmed. The $900-million increase, approved at the auto maker’s July 9 board meeting, is for the 1993-97 period, company spokesman Tom Houston said. The increased budget is to fund new vehicle programs, including a new line of subcompact cars for 1994 code-named PL, as well as a new line of compact cars and redesigned minivans, both due by 1996. The board plan also calls for an additional $100 million to be spent on Chrysler Financial Corp. in 1993 and $100 million on Electrospace Systems Inc. in 1997, Houston said.
