From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Sikh separatists shot and killed 29 Hindu villagers they had kidnaped in the jungles of central India, police said. The bodies of the kidnaped Hindus were recovered in the forest where the villagers had gone Friday to collect roots to sell as food. Sikh militants, campaigning for an independent Sikh nation in Punjab, often target Hindus, the religious majority. The killings took place near Pilibhit south of the Nepalese border, in India’s Uttar Pradesh state.
