Double world sprint champion Katrin Krabbe, who passed up the Olympics after a lengthy drug-testing controversy, tested positive for banned drugs shortly before the Games, two leading German track officials said Tuesday.
One official, who did not want to be named, confirmed a report by the German news agency SID that Krabbe and teammate Grit Breuer were positive for steroids during out-of-competition testing during the last few weeks.
SID said in a report from the Barcelona Olympics that three samples taken from Krabbe and Breuer during pre-Olympic training camps tested positive for the anabolic steroid clenbuterol.
