1988 Parusso Nebbiolo ($11) --Armando Parusso owns extensive vineyards in the Langhe region of Piedmont. Besides being a respected producer of Barolo, he also makes some “lesser” wine from the same grape variety, Nebbiolo, but at a lower price. From the excellent 1988 vintage comes this example. It has a classic Barolo aroma of “tar and roses” with a hint of cooked cherries and a silky finish. The wine is already complex and will be better with another year or two in the bottle. It may be found at less than $10 in some discount shops.
