Temple City : Bible School Shut Down
On Tuesday, the City Council unanimously ordered a vacation Bible school at Bethlehem Lutheran Church closed immediately, saying the program is really an illegal day-care center.
Councilwoman Mary L. Manning said classes at the school, run by Christ Bridge Emmanuel Church, last up to 10 hours daily. Generally, vacation Bible schools in neighboring communities last about three hours per day, she said. Manning added that there is a fee for the school; most vacation Bible schools are free.
Bethlehem Lutheran Church interim Pastor Kapp Johnson said the school was different from day-care centers because it included religious instruction.
