Rosen may be a professor of history, but she shows a curious blind spot in her understanding of demographics. If she represents the first generation of women to reject motherhood and family for the freedom of other options, she and other women who share her perspective must of necessity also represent the last. The successful gene pool of the future will come from those who love and value children and are willing to take the time and effort to raise them properly.

Her “lost generation” may provide a different lesson to emerging industrial societies from the one she thinks.
