At Least Two Killed as Powerful Thunderstorms Lash Three States

Powerful thunderstorms Saturday hit Kentucky, Ohio and western Pennsylvania with flooding and tornadoes. At least two people were killed.

Heavy rain flooded low-lying streets in Louisville, Ky., and a 51-year-old woman was found dead in a car stuck in rising water under a viaduct. She apparently drowned, a deputy coroner said.

A 14-year-old boy died after he was struck by lightning while hanging tobacco in a barn east of Louisville, authorities said.

More than eight inches of rain fell during the morning in north-central Kentucky and southern Indiana. Dozens of Louisville streets were flooded with up to four feet of water, Mayor Jerry Abramson said.

About 12,000 Louisville Gas & Electric Co. customers in the Louisville area lost power Saturday, and about 6,500 remained out Saturday night.

Southern Indiana residents were evacuated from rooftops and car tops and Interstate 65 turned into a 12-mile-long traffic jam after early morning flash flooding.

In western Pennsylvania, a tornado ripped through a trailer court in Pulaski. Eleven people were injured and at least four trailers were overturned. None of the injuries was serious, officials said.
