Truck Sales Jump, but Car Sales Slip: Sales of domestically built trucks soared 32.2% in early August in response to new buyer incentives, but passenger car sales, reflecting the uncertain economy, slid 1%, auto makers said. Ford Motor Co. reported a 34.3% increase in truck sales from a year earlier, while General Motors Corp. said it had a 23.5% gain. Chrysler Corp. truck sales were estimated to have risen 34.3%. Ford’s car sales rose 8.2%, but GM’s dipped 1.3%. Chrysler’s car sales were estimated to have dropped 24.5%.
