They Have Their Own Version of the Closing Ceremony for Olympics

While I happily acknowledge the abilities of Jim Murray as a sportswriter, I will not gladly suffer his pretensions toward omniscience. Immediately after Lewis’ gold-medal performance in the long jump, Murray wrote: “He’ll never get his world record now. He’ll never get in another Olympics. He thinks he will, but he won’t.”

How can Murray make any such claims? Lewis is still the fastest man on Earth when he is in a dead sprint, and save for a virus at the Olympic trials, he probably would have added another couple of medals to his collection. He could at any moment shatter the world record in the long jump and even in four years he could be good enough to win a medal.

He may even surprise people as much as another legendary elder statesman of sport--Nolan Ryan.
