Nation IN BRIEF : TENNESSEE : Presley Fans Stage Vigil at Graveside
Thousands of faithful gathered at Graceland for a graveside vigil marking the 15th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death. Police estimated 10,000 people were on hand as the candlelight ceremony began. It is the annual highlight of “Elvis International Tribute Week,” a string of concerts, dances and Elvis impersonator contests in Memphis, Tenn. While the warm-up events often take on a lighter air, the vigil is serious business for the Elvis faithful, who file past his grave. “The sock hops are more for fun, but this is a tribute,” said Debbie Sayers of Keyser, W. Va.
