Candidate George Bush

In response to your editorial “Bush’s Problem: How Insurmountable?” (Aug. 6):

You pose the question “is it best to renew Bush’s mandate” after assessing his Administration’s high points and low points. But one must look at how our own country has been affected--the entire picture, the bottom line. Are we economically better off than four years ago? Are we closer to resolving polarization in our society, and crime? Do we have greater faith in the institutions of government and the Supreme Court?

If the answers are no, it is time to give somebody else a chance.
