Warning on Camry Door Locks: Owners of 1987-91 Toyota Camrys could be trapped inside their vehicles if they use power door locks, according to Consumer Reports. The magazine said the power locks may stick, preventing the doors from being opened from inside or outside. In some cases a fuse blows, disabling power windows too. Toyota officials acknowledged that there have been about 50 cases of lock failures, but noted that is out of more than 800,000 Camrys sold. The company said door locks on the 1992 Camry were redesigned. It is not planning a recall of the earlier models. Instead, Toyota dealer service departments will decide “on a case-by-case basis” whether to bill Toyota for repairs, which average $1,300, said a spokesman at Torrance-based Toyota Motor Sales.
