IBM to Display Personal Digital Assistants: International Business Machines this fall will demonstrate its first prototype personal digital assistants or information appliances, pocket-sized devices that marry computing power with communications capabilities. So far, Apple Computer Inc. has stolen the limelight in this emerging field. But IBM plans to make a splash in November at the Comdex trade show in Las Vegas, the computer industry’s biggest annual gathering, IBM executives said.
