Pasadena : Grants for the Arts Awarded

The city has announced recipients of its Grants for the Arts program. The largest award, $19,500, went to the Pasadena Symphony Assn. for a free classical music concert.

Individual artist fellowships at $5,000 each went to Heidi Adams, sculpture; Hector Aristizabel, theater; Gail Brown, photography; Mark DiMaccio, sculpture; Eleazar Hernandez, film; Nancy Monk, glass; Corrine Whitaker, photo collage; Pae White, painting, and Zoot, multi-disc.

Organizations receiving $2,500 each are the Alkebu-lan Cultural Center to support a boys choir, Open Gate Theatre to stage an opera, Artnet for an exchange of works with artists from Oaxaca, Mexico, and the Pasadena Summer Youth Chamber Orchestra to produce a free concert in the park.

Special projects awards went to Houeting/Rogers/Wysenger, $8,267 for dance workshops; Pasadena Senior Center, $1,560 for concerts in the park; Philip Esparza/Ernesto Saucedo, $3,040 to teach Aztec dance to high-risk youths, and Terry Lewis/Rasa Bauza, $4,545 for dance and sculpture.

Other organizations receiving grants are I Cantori, $8,200, early music series; Pasadena Conservatory of Music, $5,850, music programs of Pasadena Unified School District; Pasadena Community Orchestra Foundation, $1,558, musical chairs concert for children.

Also: Southwest Chamber Music Society, $7,343, artists’ fees; Light-Bringer Project, $2,720, Artworks publication; Foothill Friends of Music, $5,859, concert; Coleman Chamber Music Assn., $6,000, concert series promotion, and Pasadena Young Musicians Orchestra, $664, original composition by James Whitton Aikman.
