SDSU Layoffs

Share

Your editorial (Aug. 13) regarding SDSU layoffs and Thomas Day did not go far enough.

Day should retire, resign or be removed. He has amply demonstrated he cannot lead during times of crisis.

He is directly responsible for the emotional and academic devastation that now plagues our campus.

This devastation will not disappear until he disappears.

He attempted to eliminate seven departments in 1980. We gave him the benefit of the doubt then because he was a new president.

But he didn’t learn his lesson. This time he attempted to eliminate nine departments.

Layoff notices to 146 tenured or tenure track are still in effect. All of this without adequate notice or due process.

While Day tries to clean up after himself, excellent faculty members, large grants and bright students are leaving or transferring to other universities.

He has no excuses other than gross mismanagement. It is time for Day to go.
