World IN BRIEF : LIBERIA : Rebels Accuse Foes of Killing 2,000

Liberia’s main rebel organization accused a rival militia of disguising its men as West African peacekeepers to capture a strategic barracks and alleged that up to 2,000 civilians died in the attack. “We estimate between 1,500 and 2,000 people have died within the last week of fighting,” Tom Woewiyu, defense spokesman for the National Patriotic Front of Liberia, said in accusing the rival United Liberation Movement for Democracy of the duplicity.
