Nation IN BRIEF : FLORIDA : Hurricane Andrew Heads Toward U.S.

The southeast coast of Florida was placed under a hurricane watch as Hurricane Andrew roared toward the Bahamas and the U.S. mainland with 100 m.p.h. winds. Emergency officials warned residents to begin preparations, and NASA ordered workers to batten down at the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, Fla. The hurricane watch, used to warn residents to expect the storm within 36 hours, extended from Titusville, Fla., to the Florida Keys.
