David E. Rose, 96, a film producer and longtime financial adviser and general manager to silent screen star Douglas Fairbanks Sr. Rose spent more than three decades in the film industry after meeting Fairbanks while working as a traveling salesman. Fairbanks made him a vice president at United Artists Studios, which the swashbuckling actor formed with Mary Pickford, Charlie Chaplin and D.W. Griffith. Rose later worked for two years as general manager at Samuel Goldwyn Productions before becoming head of the British branch of Paramount Pictures, where he worked until 1949. He left to form David E. Rose Productions, which produced such films as “Island of Desire,” “Sea Devils,” “End of the Affair,” “Port Afrique” and “The Safecracker.” He retired in the early 1970s. In Phoenix on Friday.
