Calstart Awarded $1.8-Million Retraining Grant: Funded by California’s employment training tax, the contract will pay for retraining up to 335 workers to help them make a transition from defense and aerospace work to such new industries as manufacturing parts for electric cars. Calstart is a consortium of 40 Southern California-based aerospace companies, small high-tech firms, utilities and academic institutions that is attempting to develop an advanced transportation industry in Southern California to replace part of the region’s flagging aerospace business.
