Italy to Renovate Prisons Housing Mafiosi

ROME —
The Italian government Friday approved a $65-million package to renovate facilities and boost security and staff on two prison islands holding hundreds of Mafia gangsters.
The Cabinet approved the funds two days after 100 Mafiosi were taken to Asinara, off the coast of Sardinia.
The Rome government, battling an upsurge in Mafia violence, has also shipped hundreds of gangsters to the prison island of Pianosa, off Tuesday.
