Tours of Mt. Wilson Observatory Offered

An insider’s view of the historic Mt. Wilson Observatory, including a look at the 100-inch telescope and observatory library, is available to visitors Saturdays and Sundays at 1 p.m. in tours sponsored by the Mt. Wilson Institute.

ASTRONOMY

Images of the Pinwheel galaxy, Orion star trails and other celestial objects are on view in an exhibit of astrophotography by Clyde Kirkpatrick at the E.L. Wiegand Space Lab at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History through December.

The museum will also offer a midweek planetarium program, beginning with “Introduction to Evening Skies” on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Call (805) 682-3224.

ENVIRONMENT

The Wilderness Institute and Cheeseboro Canyon Guides are offering a guided walk along the Sulphur Springs Trail in Cheeseboro Canyon on Saturday at 7 a.m. Participants can learn about riparian woodlands and open chaparral, examine fossils and smell the sulfur from a natural spring.
