DEL MAR : Minor Injuries for Jolie’s Halo
Jolie’s Halo, who stumbled coming out of the gate, losing jockey Edgar Prado, in the $1-million Pacific Classic, will skip 10 days of training because of minor injuries.
Trainer Bob Camac said the 5-year-old son of Halo suffered some minor cuts and scrapes when he stumbled. He also received a couple of stitches after grazing the rail while running past the grandstand.
“He’s moving OK,” Camac said. “It looks worse than it is because of the (antiseptic) spray, but it’s just on the surface. I’m guessing 10 days and we’ll be back jogging.
“I looked at his form and he stumbled out of the gate a couple of times before. He tries to really explode out of the gate. When he reached out, the ground just wasn’t there.”
Jolie’s Halo, along with Camac’s assistant Sean Crowell and groom Soldier Wilson, will fly back to Philadelphia on Wednesday.
Missionary Ridge, the $51 winner of the Pacific Classic, came out of the race in good shape.
Another Review, who finished last and ran like he might have been hurt, was in good shape Monday morning, according to trainer Chris Speckert.
“He’s bouncing and kicking today,” Speckert said. “He just didn’t run. He didn’t like it.”
Flawlessly, who will not be a starter, was given highweight of 119 pounds for next Monday’s $250,000 Del Mar Handicap at 1 3/8 miles on the turf.
Next on the list at 118 pounds is Luthier Enchanteur, who was second to stablemate Marquetry in the Eddie Read Handicap in his second local start for trainer Bobby Frankel. Previously, he had won an allowance race.
The rest of the horses invited are Navarone, Qathif and Wolf (117 pounds), Duke Of Paducah, Seven Rivers and Super May (116), Stark South (115), Gogarty (114), Myrakalu and Never Black (113).
Mirisi made it two victories in as many U.S. starts when he outfinished Ocean Dawn by a neck Monday to win the $51,950 Relaunch Stakes under Kent Desormeaux. The 3-year-old Darshaan colt completed the mile in 1:36 1/5.
Horse Racing Notes
Pat Valenzuela rode four winners Monday. He swept the first three races with Star Child, Siebe and Akin For Racin’, then won the sixth on Jamie Nicole. . . . Just Sid, who has won three of his four starts, is the 3-1 morning line favorite for Wednesday’s $75,000 Graduation Stakes at six furlongs.
