Three black inmates were injured Wednesday in a brawl between blacks and Latinos at a jail in Castaic, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
Two inmates, who suffered puncture injuries to their abdomens, were taken to San Fernando Community Hospital, Deputy Angie McLaughlin said. A third inmate was treated for a cut wrist at the jail’s clinic.
None of the injuries were serious and the inmates were returned to the jail, McLaughlin said.
The fight in a dormitory at the North Facility of the Peter J. Pitchess Honor Rancho involved six inmates, Capt. John Phillips said. Up to 85 other inmates looked on.
The cause of the altercation was unknown, McLaughlin said. It ended when deputies arrived and ordered the men to stop fighting.
Six telephones, a coffeepot, a mailbox and a window were damaged during the fight, McLaughlin said. The damage was estimated at $775.
Twenty inmates were later moved as a precautionary measure to different dorms at the North Facility, McLaughlin said.
