‘Antiquated’ Views vs. Modern Values

Share

Not all women embrace the workplace over their families. I am a mother of two daughters and I thank God that staying at home with my daughters is a priority shared with my husband.

I have a bachelor’s of science degree in child development, a teaching credential and a master’s in education. I have spent most of my adult life studying and working with children, and it was from my years in the classroom that I made the decision that if I couldn’t stay home I wouldn’t have children.

Children need a tremendous amount of love, encouragement and time. I saw too many children suffer as a result of their parents’ careers or material aspirations. I’m not saying that women alone must give up careers--but that parents together should take stock of their parenting.

Anyway, I applaud Marilyn Quayle and her decision to stay home while her children were young. It’s something that is of great value and taken far too lightly by too many in society.
